scullysummers:

  • It is heavily implied that Regina raped Graham.
  • Yes, Adam said it wasn’t rape.
  • But authorial intent is meaningless within the context of what the writers are actually producing and portraying.
  • Leopold very likely raped Regina in the same manner as she raped Graham.
  • Hook did imply that he stripped women of consent with alcohol and raped them.
  • Yes, the no-means-yes-is-romantic portrayal of CS is propagating rape culture as well.
  • THIS SHOW HAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WRT RAPE CULTURE.
  • Bringing up Regina during Hook criticism is relevant only to confirming that fact and does not invalidate the original criticism, only supports it.
  • However, denying that Regina raped Graham and/or citing authorial intent there does the opposite.
  • Because if it matters that Regina wasn’t written to have raped Graham, then it matters that Hook wasn’t written to propagate rape culture.
  • AND AUTHORIAL INTENT DOES NOT MATTER.
  • THE WRITERS HAVE INTERNALIZED SOME SUPER PROBLEMATIC CONCEPTS AND THEY ARE WRITING THEM INTO THE STORY.
  • All we can do is acknowledge and remain aware of that fact so we don’t internalize the same, regardless of which character we’re criticizing.
